Gospel

"Gospel, in Greek, was not an exclusively religious word. It simply meant "good news". When a Greek king would win a battle, he would send a "gospel carrier" around Greece to announce that he had won the battle, was in control again, and that people were free. When that announcement was made, the people were expected to believe it and live accordingly. The gospel is an announcement that Jesus is Lord and that He has won the battle for your salvation. We are to respond in repentance and faith (Mark 1:15). The gospel is not "good advice" about how to live; it is "good news" about what God has done."
